Giving Up The Coffee

Hello ladies and gents, today’s post is gonna be another little chatty one so I hope you don’t mind but I wanted to just talk a little bit about my recent decision to give up the cawwwfee (please tell me you read that in a Jersey accent).

This might seem a little boring for some so I don’t mind if you want to head out but I thought it could maybe help others so I’m gonna chat about it anyway. I’ve enjoyed drinking coffee since I was about sixteen, I’d have a cup on a morning most days whether it was before uni or work or just to start off my day, I didn’t really find that it ‘kept me awake’ or get that buzz that some people drink it for, I dunno maybe I was immune ‘cos I’d drunk it for so many years but I enjoyed the taste. Over the years I’ve had a few spells where I’d give it up for a few month’s just because I found I was drinking too much of it and didn’t want it to stain my teeth or it was giving me headaches but then I would find myself slipping back, especially in the Summer months because Iced Caramel Frappes from McDonalds are literally the best!

Anyway just after we got back from Thailand in November 2019 I decided I was going to give it up again because I found the caffeine was heightening my anxiety, even if I was only having one or two cups at work or one on a Saturday morning, I could feel the difference. As soon as I was drinking it my heart felt like it was beating out my chest and my anxiety was in full force, for a while I just ignored it, I knew what caffeine could do to someone with anxiety because I’d also read up on it. Now I don’t really think I have an addictive personality but I did think at one point ‘I don’t think I’m going to be able to give this up’ but I just kind of did, once I’d gone a few days without having a cup I was fine, I didn’t think about it, I didn’t crave one, I just kind of stopped … ain’t gonna lie I’ve probably substituted it for hot chocolate but oh well.

For anyone who suffers with anxiety and drinks coffee I strongly urge you to give it up or cut down if you drink an excessive amount, the difference it makes is amazing! Obviously it doesn’t just make your anxiety go away, I wish it worked like that, but for me it doesn’t escalate it, I’ve noticed a massive reduction in how anxious I get and I sleep so much better because of it! So now when I wake up instead of a coffee I make myself a Camomile or Peppermint tea and then just literally pour hot chocolate down my neck for the rest of the day.

If you’ve gave up coffee or caffeine in general and have noticed a difference then let me know in the comments.

    • Thank you so much lovely, absolutely I will update in the future 😊 I would definitely recommend cutting down or just completely stoping if you can, I still have a coke from McDonald’s every now and again but no coffee or tea ❤️

  1. Well done on giving up the coffee! I’ve also stopped drinking it this year as I found the same thing, it made me anxious, jittery and on edge. Now I’ve switched to herbal teas I feel much calmer and my sleep has improved too. Hot chocolate is a much tastier alternative too! Thanks for sharing your experience, glad you have noticed the positive effects too! ❤ xx

    • Thank you so much and I’m so glad to hear you’re feeling so much better 😬 haha absolutely hot chocolate is way better but I really need to cut down 😂😂 thank you for commenting I really appreciate it xx

  2. I’ve never been huge into coffee but I did spend twenty five quid a week on Starbucks when I first started my job! Now my vice is tea, not so caffeinated but terrible for the teeth stains!!
